Scotney Williams

Scotney Williams is widely recognised as one of the foremost experts on the application of the Residential Tenancies Act.

In 1986 Scotney was appointed the Regional Manager of what is known today as Tenancy Services. He managed the Manukau office for 9 years before starting his own private consultancy, providing advice and legal documentation to professional property managers, which has evolved into what is today known as tenancy.co.nz.

Scotney’s insights come from being in the industry for nearly 40 years, giving advice on tens of thousands of issues and being the creator of hundreds of property management resources.

In 2020 Scotney trained over 1700 property managers, BDM’s letting agents, administrators and business owners on the amendments to the Residential Tenancies Act.

In this Masterclass session Scotney will be getting into the detail of how the amendments have impacted the industry including:

  • The difference between the legislation and practicality for property managers
  • Common pitfalls property managers have experienced and how to avoid these
  • Minor and major changes to the rental premises
  • Tenants running a business from the rental premises
  • Documenting evidence to protect yourself
  • Violence and shootings within a tenancy, stories from the front line
  • Three strikes and you’re (maybe) out
  • And more…
